“Values on the Field,” a program chosen by the UN

Sport as a driver of change and a place of support.

On the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report was presented in the multipurpose room of the River Plate club, highlighting the achievements of our program “Values on the Field.” The purpose of this work is to document and make visible the development of the program, considering its contribution to promoting a supportive space through sport and the work on values for girls, boys, adolescents, and families living in situations of social vulnerability.

Jorge Brito, president of River, stated during the event: “As a Club, it is very important for us to carry out these programs with the River Foundation and to have had the support of the United Nations Development Programme because above football are the values, the sport, and the kids, who are the future of the country. Hopefully, we can continue to deepen these initiatives and that they last much longer.”

According to the UN, when sport, education, and the learning of values are linked, a positive dynamic is put into practice that enhances inclusion and promotes equality, challenges gender stereotypes, and becomes a tool for peace and psychosocial support.

Clara D’Onofrio, President of the River Plate Foundation and full member of the Club, shared: “With the football schools, we build a space that, from the relationships, transforms realities. Presenting this methodology is useful so that others can replicate it, and we become more who see in football an educational tool.”

“Values on the Field” is a program where, through football schools, recreational and mixed, we promote values and encourage healthy and positive relationships. We consider football our fundamental tool to unite boys, girls, and families, thereby contributing to greater social integration.
