In a context defined by the need to provide new opportunities to those who need them most, Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, joined forces with Fundación River Plate to bring light to football fields across the country, enhancing the lives of these communities.
River Plate Foundation works to promote the holistic development of children and adolescents living in socially vulnerable conditions through educational, sports, and social programs. By fostering the values of sports, the foundation aims to achieve greater social integration. Under this premise, it launched the “Illuminate Your Game” program, where various sports schools affiliated with the River Plate Foundation across the country can apply to improve the infrastructure of their football fields.
Light has a transformative power. With just the flip of a switch, dark spaces are turned into brighter ones that allow for learning and creativity. However, for more than 750 million people worldwide, reliable access to electric lighting remains a distant dream.
Signify, through its foundation and as part of its Brighter Lives, Better World program, works to bring light and opportunities to those who need them most. The Signify Foundation is committed to providing sustainable lighting solutions to disadvantaged communities, reducing the gap in access to light in pursuit of a world where everyone can benefit from its power. This unwavering commitment to community well-being aims to bring light to those striving to build a brighter future, such as football schools.
In Argentina, there are around 20,000 community clubs that play a key role in the social development of children and adolescents. These clubs offer social and recreational activities that strengthen community bonds, as well as sports and educational programs that help young people enjoy sports and stay away from negative influences. These “neighborhood clubs” serve as spaces for inclusion, socialization, and community participation, regardless of each family’s economic circumstances.
“Thanks to this initiative with Fundación River Plate to illuminate the fields, we are taking another step in strengthening local clubs and bringing the power of light to transform lives. These spaces not only become safer for the community but also allow for more hours of sports activities and serve as venues for community and provincial events. We are very proud of this partnership, which enables us to contribute to the well-being and development of the community,” says Guido Di Toto, President of Signify for South America.
“This lighting represents more opportunities and hope. It is the result of teamwork that allows more boys and girls to have a place to play, develop, and grow” adds Lucía de la Vega, Executive Director of Fundación River Plate.
A total of 84 Philips Essential LED floodlights were donated and installed for three selected neighborhood clubs that have been working with the River Plate Foundation and stand out for their community efforts. The fields benefiting from this initiative are those of Club Unión Ferroviaria de Villars in Buenos Aires, Club Calaguala in Villa Ciudad Parque, Córdoba, and Club Juventud Unida in Tres Esquinas, San Juan. By adding nighttime lighting, these clubs strengthen their role as community gathering spaces, allowing young people to meet, play, and learn even after dark.
In this way, Signify and the River Plate Foundation reaffirm their commitment to lighting the present in order to build a brighter future. Through this partnership, they aim to empower communities through lighting and sports, inspiring new generations to dream big and achieve their goals.
